How to get the best results from our search engine
You can search our website in a number of different ways. Here is what your results would look like if you searched for 'Annual Report' using the different options in the pull-down menu.

IF YOU SELECT: YOU WILL GET:
any of my words All pages which contain either "Annual" or "Report"

all of my words All pages which contain the words "Annual" and "Report"

my exact phrase All pages which contain the words "Annual" and "Report" immediately beside each other

my boolean expression This depends on the complex Boolean search phrase you enter. For example, entering 'Annual and not Report' will return all pages with the word "Annual" and exclude those that also contain "Report". You can find out more about Boolean searching in the section below.

Too many results or too few results?
Here are some suggestions to improve your search.

TOO MANY RESULTS? TOO FEW RESULTS?
  • Double check your spelling
  • Use unique terms or phrases, particularly nouns
  • Add more terms for greater specificity
  • Use the "all the words" option rather than "any of the words"
  • Use the exact phrase option rather than "any of the words" or "all the words"
  • Use the 'Boolean search' option to specify a complex search for exactly what you want. There is more information on this in our Boolean 'help' section
  • Double check your spelling
  • Use general terms
  • Use fewer terms, particularly nouns and objects for search terms. Do not try to search sentences.
  • Use the "any of the words" or "all the words" option rather than "exact phrase"
  • Consider using regional variations of a word

Boolean searching allows you to use the commands 'AND', 'OR' and 'NOT' so you can specify more complex types of search.
