Elixir Provides BI for Corent Technology’s Software as a Service

BACKGROUND: Corent Technology creates software as a service (SaaS) solutions for our customers that in turn offer the solutions to their customers as a subscription service. We call this our SaaS Factory, and we have developed an on-demand application platform that allows us to take one concept and produce one market-ready solution in one month.

PLATFORMS: We are totally independent of hardware platforms, running on any hardware that supports Java Servlet Containers.

PROBLEM SOLVED: We needed a way to quickly produce solutions that meet our customers’ business needs. That always involves reporting, dashboards and virtual data sources. Elixir Repertoire was the best product we could find either commercially or open source.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: We follow a rapid application development process that is highly collaborative and done mostly on the Web. Elixir Repertoire and its Web-based tools and REST interface fit precisely with our model. Our customers collaborate with us in real time or asynchronously over the Web wherever they are with only browser access. This allows us to design applications, reports and dashboards, test them and review with the customer in a timely manner.

STRENGTHS: We have the desire to do all or at least most of our development online without programming. Elixir Repertoire shares that same desire, and their Remote Designer allows us to follow that same model. Without question, the ability to design and produce dashboards, reports and data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) over the Web is the biggest strength. Another strength is the depth of the capabilities. We have yet to find another product that is both as easy to use over the Web and as rich in features.

WEAKNESSES: The only weaknesses I can see are that the wizards could handle more of the complex tasks and some of the Flash movies Elixir uses for training are hard to see or follow.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Web-based tools were head and shoulders more important than other factors. The features for the cost was a significant factor. Last but not least, the people at both JNetDirect (the U.S. distributor) and Elixir Technology Corporate were more than helpful and even attended a conference to help us sell solutions.

DELIVERABLES: We are currently using the entire range of outputs of Elixir Repertoire: dashboards, reports, virtual data sources and data ETL.

VENDOR SUPPORT: We had the best experience you can imagine, both during the trial and afterward, with hands-on examples and answers to questions, even before some of the other commercial vendors responded to our first inquiries. A feeling of partnership in our mutual goals is without doubt the best part of our initial and ongoing relationship.

DOCUMENTATION: The documentation is complete and thorough. Some Flash movies are better than others for training.
