From the Editor
Dear Readers,
An old sentiment says that all roads lead home, and in that spirit I am thrilled to rejoin the DM Review community where my business journalism career took root some eight years ago. Some of you will remember me as the magazines managing editor until last year when I left for another opportunity; now, as editor in chief, Ill be following a line of leadership that has always worked to match our coverage with the topics you care about most. That means reacquainting with old friends and meeting new ones as we collectively address the modern challenges of information management. The addition of a fresh eye is an advantage that will hopefully become apparent in future editorial within these pages.
While much has changed in just one year, the requirements of making informed business decisions, aligning business and IT, and serving customers effectively are consistent themes. Customer relationships have always been about value perceptions, which now have new and broader impact through social networking, as John Bostick explores in this months cover story, Trust is the New Money.
Developments such as social networks are just another example of the need to address quickly evolving business dynamics, the new constant in every organization. Amber Harrison shares techniques for change management and cultural adjustment in her article, Dont Forget About Change Management.
Though less abstract, business processes are corollary to change management and are usually addressed in a separate workplace silo for better or worse. Michael Beckley and Steven Arbogast discuss process management tactics in their articles on pages 14 and 21, respectively.
Yet another modern constant, M&A, presents uncertainty for all stakeholders, and so columnists Larry Goldman and Craig Schiff offer opinions on the impact of the recent M&A activity for the future.
These are just a few examples of what youll find in this current issue. While change is inevitable, you can trust DM Reviews print and online feature writers and columnists to share their expertise and opinions to help you navigate the challenges. Your input is equally important, and so I hope youll contact me with suggestions and story ideas at mailto:julie.langenkamp@sourcemedia.com
Enjoy the issue,
Julie Langenkamp
