From the Editor
Dear Readers,Innovation is the topic of many magazine articles, books and award presentations these days. The anniversary of the Sputnik launch reminded me how much technology has broadened our horizons in the last 50 years. Such creative, innovative thinking ultimately resulted in the Internet - and look how much innovation is still happening in that realm today. DM Review acknowledges that innovation is alive and well within the business intelligence/data warehousing (BI/DW) arena and established the Innovative Solution Awards to recognize groundbreaking technology advancements and new uses of existing technology that provide real business value. Congratulations to our winners: Catalina Marketing, Florida Rock Industries, Geisinger Health System, RTI, RLPTechnologies, Nationwide Insurance, Frontier Airlines, Magma Design Automation, Condé Nast and Procter & Gamble. These elite companies demonstrated a level of technological sophistication and innovation that moved them to a higher competitive level in advancing their strategic goals. The categories and submission highlights can be found on page 28. The complete entries can be found at DMReview.com. Defining innovation as something newly introduced, DM Review is proud to unveil our redesigned DMReview.com Web site. Please visit soon and let us know your thoughts. We will maintain our tradition of providing quality educational and informative editorial and have created a platform that will take us into the future with an active community site. In our continuing effort to provide new insight, DM Review welcomes three new columnists: DW guru Ralph Kimball; long-time industry thought leader Shaku Atre; and Vicki Raeburn, a former chief quality officer. Each address BI/DW from a differing viewpoint. Kimball advocates a be prepared before you start attitude to help ensure implementation success. Atre discusses ways to advance the acceptance of BI throughout the organization, and Raeburn looks at the ownership issues of quality data and how that impacts technology acceptance.
