From the Editor

Dear Readers,

The diversity and number of options that exist today to access pertinent, worthwhile information are causing niche magazines like DM Review to develop innovative ways to distribute our content. The popularity of the Internet as a communication tool has given us a chance to review and reassess some of the time-honored traditions and processes.

The way readers process and access their professional reading is in a state of flux. Many of you prefer the physical feel of the paper, enjoy turning of the pages and like to underline or highlight valuable insights contained in each hard copy of the magazine. Other readers appreciate access to information online, so you can catch up on reading with a mouse click on your laptop from wherever you are. As a result, we are offering an innovative and convenient delivery option of our magazine content to you.

DM Review is introducing a digital extension of the magazine. DM Review Extended Edition will debut on June 5. This additional content will follow the same format as the print version: feature articles, your favorite columns and best practices or product reviews. We will send you an email with the URL to download the PDF, or you can go to www.dmreview.com/ee to subscribe.

The feature stories in the inaugural issue are "Poor Man's BI" by Steve Miller, which presents a complete set of open source tools for business intelligence. The second feature by Michael Stavrianos and Don Henderson is on collaborative BI, which defines the evolution of change as BI and KM (knowledge management) technology matures. Look for familiar columnists William McKnight, Bill Laurent and David Raab. You'll also enjoy the systems management solution offered by Mutual of Omaha.

The traditional print copy June issue presents insight into how to evolve your processes surrounding the transformation of data into information on the topics of performance measurement (Wayne Eckerson), data quality (Jim Hodel, Rick Sherman, Jill Dyché and Evan Levy), master data management (Jane Griffin), portals (Shari Rogalski, who we welcome back as a bimonthly columnist), data modeling (Steve Hoberman) and strategy (George Veth and Jonathan Geiger).

Just as this month's authors discuss the importance of holistic approaches that tie the business process to the knowledge base, DM Review is examining our business processes to make them effective and customer-friendly. Please send me your feedback about the current issue and the new Extended Edition at maryjo.nott@sourcemedia.com .

Enjoy the issue,

Mary Jo Nott
