Q:

Where can we find information about the types of tests to apply in the databases of the data warehouse? We need to test the database to receive the activity for the actual provider.

A:

Sid Adelman?s Answer: It?s interesting how many data warehouse shops do not test ? or what they do test has minimal impact on the quality of their results. The first question is what is it you want to test. You probably want to test that the load ran successfully, that the data is current, that all the rows you were expecting to load have in fact loaded and that the dollars and the numbers tie out. The next thing you want to test is the quality of the data. You need a scorecard of the validity, the accuracy and the completeness of the data values in your data warehouse. See Larry English?s book, Improving Data Warehouse and Information Quality.

If you have a large data warehouse you will want to run performance tests on the load time. You will want to run response time tests with various types of queries.

Security is becoming more of an issue as the data warehouse is becoming more accessible through the Web. You will want to thoroughly test your security. The impact of a breach could be minor, but it could also be catastrophic. You need to understand your confidentiality requirements and understand that different data has different confidentiality characteristics.
