TietoEnator Goes Live with FAST
TietoEnator went live with Fast Search and Transfers intranet solution, FAST Enterprise Search Platform (FAST ESP).
We wanted an open and flexible search application platform, which would enable us to create the best possible user experience for our high-demanding staff, said Pekka Viljakainen, executive vice president of TietoEnator Corporation and president of TietoEnator Digital Innovations. Remembering that we ourselves offer consultancy in digital services, and that knowledge is our power, we had high demands and expectations.
TietoEnator is also a FAST partner, and with extensive knowledge of FAST ESP, they handled the implementation themselves. The new portal has substantially improved knowledge sharing and collaborative work across the organization.
Technical University Kaiserslautern Selects SANmelody
Technical University Kaiserslautern consolidated a portion of its storage and created a storage area network (SAN) to optimize its existing VMware environment using DataCore SANmelody virtual storage software.
Combined with server virtualization, Technical University Kaiserslautern benefits from a comprehensive virtual infrastructure on several levels: higher availability, greater flexibility and better performance. Additionally, the university relies on DataCores thin provisioning to improve the utilization of its existing storage hardware investments.
SANmelody adds high availability, flexibility and greater performance to our SAN, said Tonnis Pool, head of the department applications group in the data center at Technical University Kaiserslautern. We now have the ability to optimize the use of our disk space capacity, save money and improve our response times to the storage needs of our faculty in minutes, delivering storage services via our SAN over Fibre Channel or iSCSI.
Vistage Deployed Overland Data Protection Solutions
Vistage International deployed Overland Storages REO 9100c VTL with hardware compression, the REO 9500D deduplicating VTL and the NEO 4100 scalable tape library.
Vistage provides access to an extensive network of experts, CEO peers and executive learning workshops, as well as vast online resources delivered through a massive member Web portal.
Overland's triad of tiered data protection solutions are the key components of a disaster recovery strategy that enables Vistage to safeguard twice as much data on half as much media as before.
"We couldn't meet our recovery time objective of 20 minutes with our existing backup and recovery infrastructure," said Carlo Saggese, vice president of application development at Vistage International. "Moreover, we needed multiple layers of data protection to safeguard 18 TBs of vital data while also accommodating an expected surge of 50 TBs of data resulting from a large-scale conversion to high-definition video."
Unilever Implements Kalido Software
Unilever implemented an on shelf availability project using Kalido software. Unilever is building on its capabilities to improve on-shelf availability in a few initial markets.
Using the new solution, information providers can now submit in-store audit data into the Unilever data warehouse. By keeping the granularity and business context of this data, the data warehouse can serve up locally relevant, actionable information into key performance indicator reports. Unilever business managers are now using that information to make shipping and supply chain decisions to increase on shelf availability in some of Unilever's largest markets.
"The global consumer packaged goods industry is fast-paced, competitive and constantly changing. We need the most up-to-date information on how our business is operating to successfully stay ahead of market trends and our competitors, said Gary Calveley, vice president of global customer service excellence at Unilever. "Kalido's business-oriented information management software forms part of the solution enabling us to utilize consolidated operational and transactional data and provide critical visibility into business performance.
