Data Administration Trends

Trade Show newsletter published in DMReview.com
May 1, 2003

John Ladley, DMReview.com online columnist, data warehouse pioneer and pragmatic information manager was the keynote speaker at the 15th Annual DAMA International symposium and the 7th Annual Wilshire Meta Data Conference in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, April 29, 2003.

"It has been said that change is instituted through ideas or pain. At times, a great idea creates a shift in human action. At other times, necessity is the mother of new procedures," began Ladley, speaking to some of the 850 registered attendees. He went on to comment that "data administration is at the intersection of both new ideas and pain management."

The keynote addressed major trends affecting data management: the skill in managing information as an asset, the transformation from an information-focused to content-based organization, recognition of the value and broad expanse of meta data concepts and the definition of the roles of information management players in this new landscape.
