| We would like to create a corporate information management policy that will underpin future BI and data quality efforts and act as a executive-level "statement of intent" for how we deal with information and information reporting. Can you provide any guidance or examples of organizations which have done this? |
Clay Rehm's Answer: Many large companies that I have developed data warehouses for have adopted such policies and have given them names and acronyms for people to use. The key to the success of this policy is that is completely supported from the top levels of the organization. Without the "C" level (CEO, CIO, CFO, etc.), your policies will most likely go nowhere. You must get the upper levels of management feel that they created and own this policy (that it was their idea) and get them to market it to the people it needs to be marketed to.
