Why Warehousing and BI Developers are Looking Over Latin America

    Online News published in DMReview.com
July 9, 2001

When casting around for new international markets, more business intelligence and data warehousing developers are looking at Latin America.

Sagent, for instance, has just formed Sagent de Mexico, a wholly owned subsidiary headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico. By establishing Sagent de Mexico, Sagent's objective is to meet the region's growing demand for business intelligence solutions and enterprise analytical applications, currently taking command in the burgeoning retail and pharmaceutical markets. During the first quarter of 2000, Sagent established Sagent do Brasil, a wholly owned subsidiary headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"We have been operating in Mexico for several months, providing our customers and partners with affordable, scalable and quickly implemented technology that they need to get a complete view of their customers and to analyze their operations," says Manny Martinez, vice president of Latin America & The Caribbean, Sagent. "We look forward to continuing this strong commitment as we expand our presence in this region."

And Sagent isn't alone. Another developer setting its eyes on Latin America is Informatica, which recently signed a master-distributor agreement with Softtek, the leading software services provider in Latin America.

Under the terms of the agreement, Softtek will provide sales, marketing, technical, implementation and training support for Informatica business in Latin America.

Softtek has offices in all major countries and cities throughout Latin America, as well as in Spain and the United States.

Informatica will manage and support Softtek's efforts through its corporate headquarters in California, enabling Softtek to leverage Informatica's centralized product and technical expertise, and successful sales, marketing and business-development programs.

"Our partnership with Softtek will greatly enhance our ability to respond to local customer needs and market forces with highly effective local resources," said Manny Galvez, managing director of Latin America for Informatica.
