Are expert systems on the decrease? Ten years ago they seemed to be the next new thing.

Q:

Are expert systems on the decrease? Ten years ago they seemed to be the next new thing.

A:

Chuck Kelley's Answer: I think expert systems are reinventing themselves for data mining. I don't think they caught on 10 years ago because the need for analysis was not high on most enterprise lists, and the technology to process through large sets was not quite there. Think about it - would you have trusted 100GB of data in your database 10 years ago? I think not. Now that technology has caught up, some the expert systems are the basis of analysis for large sets of data.
