MicroStrategy to Provide Enterprise Business Intelligence to Paramount Pictures

Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom, Inc., plans to use MicroStrategy throughout the organization for reporting and analysis of key business areas, including sales and operations. With MicroStrategy, Paramount users will gain enhanced insights into category management, providing valuable sales information by product, category and geography to better understand which products and categories are selling well and in which locations. Paramount also plans to use MicroStrategy for operational reporting to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and make data-driven business decisions.

"We were impressed with MicroStrategy's intuitive Web interface, scalable 64-bit architecture, and robust analytical capabilities for mission-critical applications," said Joe Churchill of Paramount Pictures. "Following a thorough analysis of MicroStrategy's advanced features and functionality, we determined that MicroStrategy was a better fit for our enterprise business intelligence than our current provider."

State and Local Justice and Law Enforcement Organizations Commit to iWay Integrated Justice Suite

Dozens of government organizations have adopted the iWay Integrated Justice (IJ) Suite. State and local law enforcement and judicial agencies use iWay's solution to easily integrate information systems and share information about criminals' activities and whereabouts - helping to bring criminals to justice and keep communities safe.

Across the country, high-profile crimes and terrorist threats have magnified a known shortcoming of the nation's criminal justice system: the inability of justice agencies to share information that may be related to other crimes about suspects, investigations, and past offenders in other jurisdictions. The solution to this problem lies in transforming operational systems using a modern integration platform that adheres to open Global Justice XML.

Government organizations that use or recently purchased the iWay IJ Suite include:

  • At the state level - Arizona Department of Public Safety; California Department of Justice; Colorado Department of Corrections; Delaware Judicial System; Illinois and Pennsylvania state police; Iowa, New Jersey and Michigan state courts; Louisiana Department of Public Safety; and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
  • At the local level - New York City Police Department (NYPD), Mayor's Office and Department of Telecommunications and IT; Omaha, NE Police Department; and Harris, TX and Volusia, FL County Courts.

The iWay IJ Suite provides a comprehensive software package for inter-agency data sharing and collaboration. It provides the foundation for service-oriented architecture (SOA), a systematic and repeatable way to create interoperability among new applications and previously disparate systems. iWay fosters real-time delivery of secure, actionable information in an easy-to-use, easy-to-understand fashion. iWay adapters, which can XML-enable virtually any system in days or weeks, ease integration with more than 300 back-end and legacy assets, helping budget-constrained organizations.

DataShare, the name given to New York City's enterprise integration platform, is an award-winning example of the iWay IJ suite in action. The public safety portal is the user-facing dimension of the City's new platform, providing agency users and administrators with access to business services and administrative functionality. It was a city-wide effort, developed by New York City's Criminal Justice Coordinator and the Department of Technology and Telecommunications in partnership with the NYPD, Departments of Correction, Probation and Juvenile Justice, the Office of Court Administration, the District Attorneys and other criminal justice organizations.

The application links 17 agencies across six counties and enhances support for criminal justice investigations, trial preparation and case follow-up to improve public safety outcomes. For example, a detective investigating a pattern of robberies can subscribe to receive a text message on a pager the minute a person matching the perpetrator's description is arrested anywhere in the City; or an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx can automatically receive an e-mail when a defendant, for whom he is about to offer a plea bargain, is arrested in Queens.

New York City Mayor Bloomberg's office has called the multi-agency DataShare approach "a bold technology initiative that will dramatically improve how police, prosecutors, courts, and other criminal justice agencies communicate and share information."

TechSoup Implements Percussion Software's Rhythmyx WCM Solution

Headquartered in San Francisco, TechSoup is dedicated to helping nonprofits enhance productivity and build sustainable technology systems that foster their missions. In addition to providing free advice and educational resources tailored to nonprofit needs, TechSoup distributes technology product donations through its TechSoup Stock service. To date, TechSoup Stock has distributed over 2.5 million technology donations to nonprofits in the U.S and beyond, saving the sector $600 million for other uses.

TechSoup's search for a WCM solution began when the organization identified several needs that were going unmet by their previous, homegrown content management system. The TechSoup staff needed a flexible, easy-to-use WCM solution that would enable them to maintain Web content more efficiently and be much more productive.

They also required a scalable solution that supported some fundamental business criteria, including: multiple workflows, metadata for content and increased support for standard, Web-compliant templates. In addition, they wanted to be able to more easily enrich the content of their "Learning Center" section, allow for more customized content and to enable their editors and writers to focus on content (not HTML) and their IT staff to focus on tech strategies (not publishing HTML pages). After evaluating a dozen different content management solutions, TechSoup chose and implemented Percussion's Rhythmyx.

"All of our constituencies - staff, users, and partners - are benefiting as we increase the usability and accessibility of our published Web content," said John Coate, director of TechSoup. "Rhythmyx is a reliable software solution that increases efficiency and puts the management of content releases fully in the hands of our editorial team. With sophisticated production tools in place and more to come, we are increasing the number of content items that we schedule for release each week. In addition, with the improved article maintenance Rhythmyx allows, our editorial team can increase efficiency, introduce reporting and produce localized content for our international readers."

Lockheed Martin Canada Selects InterSystems Ensemble

Lockheed Martin Canada has selected InterSystems' Ensemble integration software for the Canadian Forces Health Information System (CFHIS). The CFHIS program, awarded to Lockheed Martin in 2002, is a 10-year $54.5M CDN effort designed to enable more than 2,500 Canadian Forces (CF) healthcare providers located in clinics across Canada to share information securely and coordinate care for approximately 85,000 regular and reserve force personnel worldwide.

InterSystems is a leading provider of innovative database and integration software. The InterSystems product line includes the CACH post-relational database, Ensemble rapid integration software, and HealthShare health information exchange platform.

"Ensemble provides a comprehensive, robust, easily managed integration engine that offers the wide range of functionality needed to connect hospitals throughout Canada. This was a critical driver behind our selection of Ensemble for the CFHIS project," said Jeet Sodhi, Lockheed Martin program manager. "Ensemble's capabilities to enable ongoing application development for business activity monitoring and message traffic analysis also played an important role in our integration technology choice."

The first program capabilities were introduced to CF medical and dental clinics at 38 locations throughout Canada earlier this year. Phase II of the program, which is now under way, involves introduction of administrative and clinical applications that will move the CF towards a fully integrated health management system.
