Health Management Services Provider to Use BI as a Competitive Weapon

    Online News published in DMReview.com
December 27, 2005

SHPS, a provider of integrated health management services, recently turned to SAS for a solution that can help SHPS fully analyze trends in member health and client care.

"Our integrated health management services drive down healthcare costs by bringing together everything from benefit eligibility and enrollment of members to disease management and disability management," said Keith Stoneback, president of healthcare services at SHPS. "This unique approach to healthcare management demands a single, powerful software platform that can help us determine the most effective courses of treatment and communicate our plans and results to our clients. That's why we chose SAS."

Because the rising cost of healthcare now tops employers' concerns, SHPS saw the need to provide clients more detailed, sophisticated analyses of the factors affecting their expenses, as well as to offer frequent progress reports on SHPS' strategies and results. To accomplish this, SHPS sought a single platform that could perform sophisticated analyses and then deliver the results through a business intelligence portal that provides operational reports and the ad hoc query and reporting needed by nontechnical software users.
