Can anyone provide a summary of how ISO 11179 and OMG CWM are related and where each pertains to a meta data repository project?

Q:

Question: I've been tasked with developing a meta data repository for business meta data. In my research, I have come across tho standards which seem to be related, but I'm having trouble understanding how they are similar and how they differ. Can you provide me a summary of how ISO 11179 and OMG CWM are related and where each pertains toa meta data repository project?

A:

Chuck Kelley's Answer: My understanding is that OMG CWM is an interface standard. That is, how does Product A exchange meta data with Product B. ISO 11179 is the international standard for defining a meta data repository. For what I believe you are trying to do, I would go with the ISO 11179 standard (even though it is not completed yet!).
