Pragmatic Solutions, Inc. Announces Syspedia Software's Debut

Pragmatic Solutions, Inc. a leading IT database services provider and provider of cross-platform meta data management solutions, introduced Syspedia at the DAMA International Conference in Orlando, Florida. Syspedia is a new generation of innovative enterprise software solutions that allows corporations to easily find and identify existing business rules and controls across all enterprise computing platforms.  By quickly understanding the actual business rules and controls that exist in current computer software programs, defining new rules or controls can quickly be incorporated into existing governance and extraneous or duplicate controls removed that waste precious resources.

"Sarbanes-Oxley Sections 302 and 404 require companies to identify key business processes and any vulnerability in their controls", said David Beulke founder and president of Pragmatic Solutions, Inc.  "Compliance teams need the ability to find existing controls embedded in application code to understand their parameters and usage for both documentation and when required, remediation."

Take the example of a company restating earnings because of accounting issues.  Auditors uncovered an overcharging of state sales tax for customer purchases.  Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requires understanding of the taxation controls and process.  Using Syspedia in this example, you can quickly research and analyze the tax data elements and application processing code through a secured web interface to understand the tax tables used to calculate the tax amounts.  Research showed that the application was using the default tax rate and not properly adjusting the tax rate for the customer's state. Syspedia helps the compliance team document the taxation process and the controls that are in the application code so problems like this are avoided in the future.

SchemaLogic Releases Next-Generation Enterprise Platform - SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0

SchemaLogic, the leader in enterprise meta data and taxonomy management software, released its next-generation enterprise metadata and taxonomy management platform - SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0. A product suite designed to quickly deploy in a myriad of different environments across the enterprise, SchemaLogic adds additional interface, integration, and customization options to SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0.

As companies have evolved content systems over the last decade, the common result is that the typical enterprise will have numerous content management, document management, and digital asset management systems. These systems are often accessed through multiple portals and Web sites, and discovered through a combination of enterprise search products. This unstructured information is usually organized by corporate taxonomies that define the categories and metadata describing the content. As the volume of this unstructured information has increased, and because of its corresponding impact on information findability, collaboration and governance, the accompanying structure of taxonomies and metadata has become a very important asset to manage.

"We are helping our customers respond to a challenging business problem," said Jeff Dirks, president and chief executive officer of SchemaLogic. "As organizations have added more and more unstructured content, they are having increasing difficulty organizing the content for successful search and reuse. Organizations become SchemaLogic customers because they realize that by managing taxonomies and metadata at an enterprise level they are able put an important cornerstone in place for enterprise information integration and findability. In defining and managing the structure and context of information, we are able to produce better search, more powerful categorization, faster integration, and greater reuse of existing corporate information assets. SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0 establishes this cornerstone in the corporate technology stack."

SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0 product suite consists of the following:

SchemaLogic SchemaServer

  • At the heart of the SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0 product suite is SchemaServer which provides an active meta data repository that drives modeling, mapping and synchronization across disparate enterprise systems. Enriching unstructured information through taxonomic meta data, controlled vocabularies and a consistent semantic mapping schema leads to information findability and enterprise-level content integration.
  • Efficient, effective enterprise search and information management
  • Enhanced information integrity
  • A single solution for team-oriented collaboration and metadata management
  • Integration of structured and unstructured information
  • Effective governance across disparate systems

SchemaLogic Workshop

SchemaLogic Workshop provides business domain experts and technical data architects the ability to model, rationalize, and manage the creation, import/export, and synchronization of metadata models and schemas with other applications and systems throughout the enterprise.  Workshop is the user portal into SchemaServer and SchemaLogic Integrator and is both flexible and extensible.

SchemaLogic Integrator

SchemaLogic Integrator manages the synchronization of metadata to subscribing systems with adaptors.  This integration framework provides adapters that communicate directly with subscribing systems, moving reference data, metadata and controlled vocabularies from SchemaServer's repository.  SchemaLogic offers standard adapters for content management, portal, search, categorization, database, XML schema and other enterprise systems.

SchemaLogic Active Terms

SchemaLogic Active Terms provides automated synchronization of Microsoft Office desktop environments with approved enterprise vocabulary - terms such as brand and product names, technical lists and business codes. By using SchemaLogic Active Terms, organizations can dynamically control content at the point of creation:

  • Employees typing in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook are automatically prompted with correctly spelled and punctuated business terms
  • Commonly misspelled business terms, specific to your business, are automatically corrected as entered in Microsoft Office products
  • The Microsoft Office dictionary is updated with an organization's unique business terms

SchemaLogic Software Development Kits

SchemaServer is the foundational layer of the SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0 product suite.  The SchemaServer SDK allows developers to create their own applications to interface with SchemaServer. The SDK includes an Architectural Overview of SchemaServer and developer kits for both the SOAP API and the Java API.   Typical customer applications of the SchemaServer SDK include the creation of customized user interfaces to SchemaServer.  The SchemaLogic Integrator SDK provides access to the Integrator Java API. Developers can create their own applications and adapters to synchronize metadata managed in SchemaServer with various subscribing systems.

Hardware, Software and Language Support

SchemaLogic 3.0 supports all standard Java compliant environments.  This release adds certification for AIX, HP-UX and Sun operating systems to our existing support for Windows.  SchemaLogic supports a variety of Application servers, including IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic.  Databases certified for this release include DB2, Oracle, and SQL Server.  All taxonomy and metadata terms include global language support.

"SchemaLogic Enterprise 3.0 product suite addresses a new and important market segment," added Michael Rudy, SchemaLogic VP and COO. "This new enterprise-class platform provides compatibility with one of the industry's most important standards for developing interoperable and scalable enterprise applications - J2EE.   We are pleased that we can both extend our product suite features and deliver the cross-platform configuration that many of our customers require.

In a related announcement, SchemaLogic announced a strategic partnership with iPhrase, a leading provider of adaptive search solutions for e-business and e-service. The partnership combines SchemaLogic's taxonomy and meta data technology that extracts structure from existing content with iPhrase OneStep's unique capabilities to understand user queries and to present results in ways that make it easy for users to take action.

SchemaLogic's software aggregates, reconciles and publishes standard vocabularies, categories and other "information about information" (meta data), that enables enterprises to build a common metamodel used across various content management, portal and enterprise search systems such as iPhrase OneStep. iPhrase is a leading provider of adaptive search solutions that help companies leverage enterprise content to increase self-service adoption and improve employee productivity. iPhrase offers SchemaLogic's software users with value-added adaptive search solutions to help improve findability of information across an enterprise.

"Enterprise search is becoming the de facto way of finding information in corporations today," said Steve Ardire, chief strategist for SchemaLogic. "By providing consistent metadata structure and meaning via aggregated taxonomies and controlled vocabularies, we enhance iPhrase OneStep context driven search precision and personalized guided end-user interactions. As a result, users will be able to quickly and easily search their entire enterprise to find pertinent information."

"For organizations taking control of their taxonomy and metadata initiatives, iPhrase OneStep leverages this additional information to fine tune search precision and facilitate dynamic refinement of search results.  OneStep's unique capability to understand user queries and to present results in ways that make it easy for users to take action improves the overall user experience and effectiveness of information requests." said Paul Esdale, SVP of Business Development at iPhrase Technologies.

By implementing SchemaLogic's metadata management and taxonomy solutions, organizations can improve the findability of information across their enterprises. Knowledge workers armed with critical and relevant information can help organizations be more agile and react quickly to today's fast-paced, constantly changing business environment. The information can also help organizations collaborate more effectively across departments and organizations, which will also enhance the decision making process and accelerate change. As information findability improves, governance over corporate data increases, enabling advanced classification and more control over business critical documents.

"Knowledge workers in enterprises today are being driven by the need to quickly extract value from distributed information," said Jeff Dirks, president and chief executive officer of SchemaLogic. "Since every large enterprise is struggling to improve the way information is shared and used, SchemaLogic is at the forefront of what is a top information management priority in 2005. We look forward to working with our valued strategic partners to help our customers improve their enterprise data management."
